This extremely exotic Oxypora species coral has bright red corallite centers and a bright red edge. The Red Eye Oxypora grows thick plates. Its red corallites also have turquoise colored centers. The main surface of the coral ranges from bluish to reddish in color. On top of this base pigment there are also white markings. On the surface of the coral there are bumps or tuberculae that are arranged into rows. The surface white markings appear to be drawn on top of the rows of bumps. These rows radiate outward to the corals edges. This was another coral that was initially acquired by Clint and Krista Conway of DiamondsintheReef.com . They acquired this coral from the online coral retailer Reefermadness. The corals main body pigments range in color from bluish (image below) to reddish (image above). We do not know at this time which light environments make the coral main surface more blue. Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed farming section of the Red Eye Oxypora sp. coral for Reeffarmers.com in one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal Reef Aquarium. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned to recieve weak light under a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. Update January 2007 - Unfortunately Reeffarmers lost our seed fragment of this rare Red Eye Oxypora Auctioned Edition coral. We were unsuccesful at fully adapting the coral to our captive systems and it slowly receded over time.

Red Eye Oxypora sp. Diamonds in the Reef Parent Colony. Note the numerous Red Eyes or corallites on the surface.
This color morph had a bluish main surface color. Also note that surface bumps (tuberculae) are arranged into rows.

When First Edition Reeffarmers Auctions occur, about 50 % of the auction price will go to the farmer that delivered this coral to the reeffarmers.com facility. We do this in gratitude to reef farmers who have chosen to sell their rare corals through the Reeffarmers Auctioned Edition (AE) distribution network. The Reeffarmers facility is closed to the public.
