NOTE - This coral was retired during the summer of 2006. We unfortunately loss the parent colony after distributing a couple of Auctioned Edition fragments. Unfortunately there are no known survivors of this coral. It was completely lost in captivity. There is however a similar colored Limited Edition Echinophyllia called Juners Echinophyllia. We initially recieved this coral at the Reeffarmers facility during the first week of July 2003. At that time Bill Schroer was working as a collector for a Ponape export operation. This coral was within the last group of corals Bill collected and delivered to Reeffarmers. We maintained the coral for about a month and then in an obvious moment of weakness, we sent the entire fragment to a private collector in Texas for safe keeping. At that time the demand for exotically colored Echinophyllia sp. was relatively weak and we had very little space available within our facility. When Reeffarmers initially recieved the coral it was colored red with pink highlights (see image below). After about a month in captivity the main background of the coral developed a blue white coloration with pink and red highlights (see image below). The tips of papillae and corallite ridges were colored red and pink. Upon close examination the coral was bluish with red dots and lines. It was at this time that we sent the coral to Texas for safe keeping. We were in constant contact with the collector and decided in early 2005 to acquire a fragment of this coral back to the reeffarmers facility. While in Texas the coral was never fragmented and was maintained in relatively weak light levels. In this light the corals growth was slow and the surface developed a bluish white background with red dots and lines (see image below). Red lines can develop towards the edges of this colony that radiate outward toward the edge (see image above). Corallite centers are pink with red highlights (see image above). Steve Tyree carried and transported this coral back from Texas on an airline flight. Within the reeffarmers facility the coral is currently being exposed to moderate light levels. The background Blue White color has become more Blue and reddish dots and lines are devleoping more fully. There also appears to be some exotic pigment patterns within the corallite areas. This coral has the potential to develop some absolutely incredibly colored patterns as it forms new encrusting and massive plate growths. Steve Tyree is maintaining a farmed section of this coral for reeffarmers.com in one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal Reef Aquariums. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned to recieve moderate light under a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. The Auctioned Edition opening bid for each new auction is currently $175 per small sized fragment. The bimonthly auctioned edition auction schedules can be found below. When we began auctioning this coral there were only two known people within the entire U.S. who have this particular exotic color morph from Ponape. Reeffarmers has the one imaged above, while a private collector in Texas retains half of the colony imaged below. That private collector was the Keeper of the Coral from the Fall of 2003 until March 2005. Update October 2005 - Unfortunately this rare Ponape Echinophyllia just became even more rare. The private collector in Texas experienced an accident with his main reef system and has lost his section of the coral. As of October 2005 Reeffarmers currently only has a tiny fragment the size of a pea. We have managed to ship two auctioned fragments and are hoping our fragment begins to grow better.

Please note - This Auctioned Editionwill only be distributed via auctioning through Reeffarmers. Reeffarmers.com will not sell any fragments of this coral as surplus or as a cancelled item. No fragments of this coral will be traded on the side by Reeffarmers for Limited Edition Corals. We do reserve the right however to possibly trade a fragment of this coral to help acquire a new Auctioned Edition coral. When First Edition Reeffarmers Auctions occur, about 50 % of the auction price will go to the farmer that delivered this coral to the reeffarmers.com facility. We do this in gratitude to reef farmers who have chosen to sell their rare corals through the Reeffarmers Auctioned Edition (AE) distribution network. The Reeffarmers facility is closed to the public.
