An incredible Porites coral with fire colored polyps. Polyps have red tentacles with golden centers and a bright yellow colored mouth. Some polyp tentacles have white bulb tips. The surface of this encrusting massive coral varies from dark green to a very dark almost black colored inner section. It is possible that under stronger lighting the surface can develop some more exotic pigmentation qualities.

The R66 RR Asia Porites Route Edition was named by Route 66 Marine. It was directly imported from Reef Raft Asia. Reeffarmers added the Fire Polyp description because this coral definitely has fire colored polyps. The Porites species identification was just based on the general look of the coral. This is definitely not a Goniopora species as the polyps have 12 tentacles and not 24. And we doubt it is an Stylocoeniella because the surface is smooth.

Reeffarmers is not currently maintaining a seed section of this coral. We lost this one after it was transferred to our growout system. We are currently looking to reacquire the coral from a harvesting from the First Edtion. The parent section of this coral was not salvaged from Route 66 Marine before the closing and we believe that it was lost prior to then.

Our system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In this captive reef the coral is positioned to receive weak to moderate light and water current. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold to Dennis Sandoval. Suggested list price on February 20th 2015 was $165 for a small fragment.
