The PPBM is a solid blue/purple colored Acropora species that has a rare morphology and may be the rare Acropora willisae species. The colony morphology consisted of vertical and smooth branches that formed an almost flat table top like appearence. In addition to this rare morphology polyps are multicolored. Originally they were a bright pink red and this has morphed into a more purple red coloration over time.

The PPBM Pink Polyp Blue Monster name was developed by Route 66 Marine. This was an obvious rare coral species and morph that Route 66 Marine put aside when it arrived. The colored polyps also made this is very incredible coral. It has a lot of potential to develop some amazing morphological characteristics as it grows in captivity.

Reeffarmers is currently maintaining a seed section of this coral in a 8 foot Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. After we acquired our intiial seed and first edition fragment, the main colony at Route 66 Marine had problems and had to be broken down into fragments. There were at least a dozen fragments of this coral at the Route 66 Marine facility when they closed. Some of these might have made it out of the facility and could have been distributed.

Our system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In this captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate to strong light and moderate to strong water current. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold at the 2015 Reef Currents event in Houston. Suggested list price on February 16th 2015 was $190 for a small fragment.
