Reeffarmers found two colonies of the R66 Moldy Grapes Tenuis at the Route 66 Marine facility in Southern California. One of those seed colonies is imaged above. Reeffarmers believes that the blue mold branch pigments are actually caused by the corals blue pigments. It is possible that the polyps could be contact grafting the pigments onto the branches.
Reeffarmers is currently maintaining a seed section of this coral in a 8 foot Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. None of the two parent colonies of these corals are known to have made it out of Route 66 Marine before the closing. Because they had two colonies we are assuming that at least a few of these fragments were possibly sold. There is no surviving parent colony.
Our system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In this captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light and moderate to weak water current. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold at Reef Currents 2015 to Zach MacDonald. Suggested list price on March 31st 2015 was $140 for a small fragment.
