Originally this coral was referred to as the Gold Finger at Route 66 Marine. Now the yellow gold polyp center was initially difficult to see under blue halides, but was much more intense under T5's or LED lighting. Above image however shows how the coral under 20,000 K halides can develop intense golden pigment polyp centers. The above seed with its intense pigments under 20,000 K will scream color under Blue LED lights. We called it Merlin's Staff due to the staff like almost staghorn physical nature of the branches. The blue color is also similar to the blue gem found in Merlin's staff in a recent television series involving Merlin.
Reeffarmers is currently maintaining a seed section of this coral in a 8 foot Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This colony was not pulled out of the Route 66 Marine facility before the business was closed. We believe it had died before then, but it was a fairly large colony, so we are assuming that a few fragments were distributed by Route 66 Marine. There is no surviving parent colony.
Our system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In this captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate to strong light and moderate water current. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold to Brian Schneiderman. Suggested list price on April 18th 2015 was $145 for a small fragment.
