The R66 Candy Cane Montipora was named in collaboration between Reeffarmers and Route 66 Marine. Obviously the name is based on the brilliantly colored red and white polyps. Polyp centers are deep red, while tentacle tips are bright white. The main surface pigment is forest green, but in some areas red pigmentation also occurs on the surface. Reeffarmers thinks this is contact grafting onto the surface from the red polyps themselves.

Another incredible coral from the private collection of Route 66 Marine. This coral has two primary pigment morphologies. A red background with red and white polyps and a green background with red and white polyps.

Reeffarmers is currently maintaining a seed section of this coral in a 8 foot Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. We do not know what happened to the main parent colony at Route 66 Marine at the time that company closed. We are assuming that a few fragments have been distributed.

Our system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In this captive reef the coral is positioned to receive weak to moderate light and moderate water current. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold at Fragniappe 2015 to Andrew Hoppes. Suggested list price on February 19th 2015 was $165 for a small fragment.
