Tina's Pink Orgasm Acropora is another exotic Acropora from the coral collection at Wet Thumbs. Branches are colored a pastel pink that turns into a violet pastel blue near the tips. Corallites can also develop bright fluorescent green edges. Polyps are tiny and tentacles are bright white. We have actually seen corals exported from Fiji that had similar colorations, but those were very difficult to adapt to captivity. The Reeffarmers Acropora microclados Multicolor LE from Fiji is similar to this coral, but polyps are not colored white, corallite edges do not develop green and branch tip color is different.

Reeffarmers acquired our new seed and first edition fragments directly from WT Inc.. Dan and Tina of Wet Thumbs originally purchased the colony near the end of 2010. It was exported from Indonesia and was initially browned out with little coral pigmentation. Apparently it was collected on a reef slope at a depth of 10 to 15 meters. The coral responded well to the strong light from a 400 watt Ushio bulb at a distance of 12 inches. Over several months it attained the incredible pigmentation in the above image. Fragments may initially lose some color, but they rebound quickly and readily encrust. Dan and Tina also recommend iodine, K supplements and low nutrients to develop the best coloration.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive strong to moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral is being sold on our Buy It Now page. Introductory list price is $250 for the small fragment.
