This Acropora tenuis was exported from Fiji. There has been a few various A. tenuis corals exported recently from Fiji and they have contained a variety of colorations. This particular specimen originally had very deep blue pigmented branch tips. When Steve Tyree first saw the coral it reminded him of a couple of corals he seen in the mid to late 1990's that developed intense blue pigments in captivity. One was farmed and distributed by Steve and the other was distributed by the reeffarmer Steve Noel. That one was called the Steve Noel Tenuis. This new coral specimen has also developed the intense blue pigments that the previous two corals developed. The blue is so intense that Steve is calling it a Super Blue pigmentation. If you want a blue colored coral in your reef, this is the coral you should get. The blue pigment can even be developed under weak lighting, but it gets more intense under moderate to strong lighting. Under intense lighting the branch stems become cream colored. This coral is being farmed by Steve Tyree and it is located within one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal EG reefs. The Acropora tenuis Super Blue develops branching bush or cushion-like shaped colonies. The monthly limited edition reservation schedule can be found below. Please note effective October 2009 we have changed the harvesting and reservation schedule to bimonthly. This better matches the corals long term growth rate in captivity. We are also raising the price on the coral to $85 per fragment. This has been a very slow growing coral in captivity and Reeffarmers has almost lost it a couple of times. In the long run the coral has developed a growth form that is between an echinata and a tenuis. We now have a developed seed that is producing fragments. We cancelled and deleted some of the old reservations that we know were made by people who know no longer have reefs. We will be selling a couple of the new seed produced fragments as cancelled and then will be shipping reservations made before January 2010 at the old price of $55. A picture of a fragment produced from the seed that has been maintained within captivity since 2003 appears below.
