The Sol Amarillo Acropora has brightly colored tips that contrast very sharply with its branch stems. The tips have a primarily yellow coloration that can vary to yellow green and to green. Branch stems are primarily colored cream white. However additional purple blue pigments can also develop on branch stems and it is not known if that color can develop more extensively. Polyps extend during the day and their coloration varies from light green to light yellow green.

Reeffarmers acquired our new seed and first edition fragments directly from WT Inc.. Dan and Tina of Wet Thumbs originally transhipped this colony from Bali in early 2011. The name Sol Amarillo is spanish for Yellow Sun and was coined as a group effort by Art Petit, Steve Tyree, Dan and Tina. Wet Thumbs recommends strong light and they state the coral survives fragmentation very well. Under good conditions it is a very hardy coral.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive strong to moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold on our Buy It Now page. Introductory list price was $150 for the small fragment.

The bright yellow green color only develops on the tips or edges of corallites.
Polyps also appear to develop a similar color that has a lighter intensity or shade.
