The Rising Sun Stag is an incredible pink colored staghorn that recently developed a more intense pink pigmentation in Reeffarmers fragment holding system. The pink tip and pink corallite edge coloration has now intensified and covers the branch stem and also the entire corallite wall. This staghorn also has the ability to encrust at its base area (see above image). Corallites have a very exotic fluted shape where the lower walls develop and extended spoon-like cup formation. Polyps tentacle tips are also cream pink and appear to be developing pigmentation.

This incredible staghorn was originally exported from the Solomon Islands and acquired by Steve Garrett of Garrett's Acropolis. The coral was found in late 2010 within a Los Angeles importers facility. Originally the coral browned out with just a hint of pink. Reeffarmers was able to develop some incredible pink coloration when the coral was placed under intense to moderate 20,000 K metal halide lighitng. The corals name was developed by Reeffarmers for Garrett's Acropolis. The staghorn seed imaged above has the look of a ray of light from the Japanese Land of the Rising Sun flag.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive strong to moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold on our Buy It Now page. Introductory list price was $85 for a small single branch fragment.

Limited Edition Rising Sun Stag Reeffarmers Corallite Closeup Image.
This corallite closeup image clearly shows the exotic shape of the fluted corallites.
The lower walls can become very extended and form spoon-like shapes.
Steve Garrett believes these extended walls become more prominent in fast growing areas.
Note how polyp tentacle tips are developing a cream pink coloration.
