This coral has some very exotic polyps that are colored red and blue.
Polyp centers are solid dark blue, while tentacles are bright red.
Corallites are blue with an upper edge that can be colored pink red.

A new and exciting color morph for the group of Shortcake Acropora microclados corals. These species in general have exhibited some exotic and unique color morphs making them highly desirable. This Coral Revolution Rainbow Shortcake has corallite polyps that exhibit an exotic color pattern. The inner corallite area or eye is colored solid dark blue, while the polyp tentacles are colored bright red or blood red. This pigment is more red then the pink found in the typical Strawberry Shortcake Acropora. That makes for a very exotic and contrasting color combo. The corallites themselves are bright blue in their upper regions, while lower regions and stems are colored cream yellow to green. Corallites can also develop a bright red pink upper edge.

Coral Revolution acquired the original Rainbow Shortcake Acropora in January 2014. It has adapted well to captivity and has enhanced its pigment intensity. The contrast between the corals blue polyp eyes and the polyps red tentacles has gotten stronger in captivity. Coral Revolution recommends very strong flow and strong to very strong lighting to maintain the corals color and growth.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in an 8 foot raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive strong light levels from a 400 watt SE 20,000 K metal halide.
