A rainbow colored Melting Pot type of chalice is the best way to describe the AC Rainbow Explosion Chalice. There appears to be 4 primary pigment colors for the melting pot splotches. Orange, red, pink and turquoise blue. In the upper image there also appears to be additional yellow or golden pigment along the left edge. Some small areas of the surface can develop very dark almost black spots to tiny splotches. Small rough bumps occur in radiating rays from the corallite and these bumps can appear more creamish in coloration.

The AC Rainbow Explosion Chalice was discovered and acquired by Nick at Addicting Corals. Nick believes this melting pot type of chalice will actually produce colorful fragments even at small sizes. The first edition below is an example of the typical small fragment the AC Rainbow Explosion can produce when growing. This appears to be a low light and low to moderate water current chalice. It was imported about two months ago near the end of spring 2011. Cut ends had healed and started new growth on the main seed section.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive weak to moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was auctioned at the 2011 IE-CFM Coral Show.
