The Purple Kush Acropora has an incredibly unique morhology and coloration. The basic shape of the coral appears to be a thick branched A. valida or A. secale. What is very unique however is that branches can develop smooth areas similar to smooth A. loripes type corals. That is very unique for these types of Acropora. The coloration is solid Purple with shades that range from red purple to blue purple. Polyps are bright fluorescent green. So in a basic sense the coral appears similar to a tricolor, but the branches are thicker then A. cerealis or A. nana tricolors. This is also a little bit of Purple Monster character to the coral.

Another very unusual find from WT Inc.. They do not remember where exactly this coral was exported from, but based on their expertise, the morphology combined with this coloration is very rare. They recommend strong light and strong water current. Reeffarmers has never seen a thick tricolor coral that could also develop smooth loripes-like branch areas.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in an 8 foot Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light levels from a 250 watt DE 20,000 K metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold to a private collector. Introductory sales price was $90 for the small fragment. The coral has sold for a list price as high as $150.
