This brand new Cyphastrea japonica coral has a new pigmentation pattern for Cyphastrea corals
that has not yet been seen within U.S. reefs. The main body of this Cyphastrea is colored purple blue, while the polyps
and corallite ridges are colored bright green. This is very unusual for a Cyphastrea. We believe that
this is a C. japonica based on corallite size and pigmentation pattern. The coral also has another
exotic quality concerning its pigmentation. When polyps are retracted (see image below) some of the
corallite ridges have developed a pink stripe pigmentation mark. We initially distributed
this coral as an Auctioned Edition First Edition at the 2006 February
SouthWestern Coral Farmers Market.
Reeffarmers first acquired this coral from Snipersps and Mario Mchava who found the coral at a local
retail reef shop in Southern California. They now prefer a Limited Edition distribution for this
coral and Reeffarmers has agreed. The coral is now being released as a new LE coral.
Steve Tyree is maintaining a farmed section of this coral
for reeffarmers.com in one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal Reef Aquariums. In
Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned to recieve moderate to weak light levels under a
400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. Limited Edition Reservation price for fragment is
currently $95 per small sized fragment. The bimonthly limited edition reservation schedules
can be found below.
