Another incredible Dragon-shaped Acropora coral ! The Purple Dragon Eyes Acropora was named by Leo Chen who acquired the first fragments of the original colony. This is a true Dragon-Type Acropora that also has bright green dragon eyes or polyps. The corallites develop a purple blue pigment that extends down from the corallites. This pigment can completely cover the corals branches. Overall the coral develops into a loose branch tabling formation with branches that have irregular random growth.

Reeffarmers received our seed fragment direct from Leo Chen who acquired a section of the original Reef Raft USA colony in March of 2012. Leo discovered that the coral had some very unique attributes. The coral adapted well and increased its coloration for Leo. He recommends a steady medium speed flow and medium to strong lighting. The coral will develop more blue under strong light and more purple under low light. See image below for the more purple coloration and the image above for the more blue coloration.

Reeffarmers is maintaining a seed section of this coral in our 8 foot Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In our captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate to strong light levels from a 250 watt 20,000 K double ended metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold to a private customer. List price was $250 for a small fragment.
