Echinophyllia sp.
Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin Patch Greg Carroll Seed Colony. This new Echinophyllia coral has an incredible pigmentation pattern
that rivals the Watermelon Echinophyllia Corals. The amazing orange patches or spots of the Pumpkin Patch coral can be
seen in this large section of Greg Carroll's seed colony. The bright green patch in the center lower right section is
a newly forming corallite. Also note that the orange corallites are ringed with yellow green pigments.

This amazing Echinophyllia thick plating coral has an olive green base coloration that can at times appear slightly grayish. There also appear to be some blue gray pigments that mix with green pigments to produce the Olive Green overall appearence (see image above). The bright orange corallite coloration contrasts very strongly with the base coloration. What you basically see from far away is an olive greenish plate with patches or large spots of bright orange pigmentation. Reeffarmers acquired our seed fragments from Greg Carroll who has named this coral the Pumpkin Patch Echinophyllia. Obviously the orange spots represent large pumpkins sitting in a field or patch. Greg acquired the coral from Anthony Yang of aquadesignz.com. This coral is the same coral as the Auctioned Edition Miami Hurricane Echinophyllia coral. We recieved our first fragment of the Miami Hurricane coral from Eric of Fragfarmer.com and then later recieved a fragment of the Pumpkin Patch coral from Greg Carroll. Both parties had decided on their marketing names about the same time that they discovered that both corals came from the same original exported colony. That colony was broken into two pieces and Fragfarmers had recieved one piece just prior to Greg Carroll recieving the second piece. We are distributing the Greg Carrol lineage as the Limited Edition Pumpkin Patch. The Eric (Fragfarmer) lineage is distributed as the Auctioned Edition Miami Hurricane. For those of you who do not want to wait years for one of our LE reservations, you might be able to pick up the AE lineage during one of its auctions. This amazing coral appears to prefer moderate to low light levels. It can be slightly difficult to transfer between systems and adapt it to strong light. It has shown growth in captivity and appears to be a new class of Chalice or Echinophyllia corals that should do incredibly well within the exotic captive market. Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 125 gallon naturally filtered TriZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a cryptic zone, filter feeder zone and reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned 24 inches away from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The coral appears to develop its most intense coloration under moderate illumination. This helps to maintain the brilliant orange corallite center pigments. Price is currently $185 per fragment containing a single corallite. The quarterly limited edition reservation schedules can be found below.

Pumpkin Patch Greg Carroll Seed closeup. Extreme closeup of a corallite of the
Pumpkin Patch coral. In this image one of the corallites tentacles is partially extended.
These tentacles appear to have pink pigments. In this closeup image the green pigments
that are most intense around the corallites can be seen.
