This pink Acropora prostrata also has the ability to develop blue tips and blue base pigmentation. The blue and pink pigments can also occur together giving the coral a purple or muave coloration. The Solomons Islands used to export quite a few of these exotic multi-colored Acropora prostrata (millepora). We also occasionally see them from Jakarta. This particular colony was grown from a fragment of a Solomons Island coral. This Limited Edition is actually being grown by the reeffarmer Tracy Gray. He has setup two new reefs after his nasty crash that occurred early in 2003, while Tracy was on business in Japan. Luckily he had placed a couple of small colonies of this pink and blue A. prostrata in his backroom reef system and they survived the crash of his main system. Polyps are extended during the day and are mainly transparent. We believe this is a Acropora prostrata instead of a Acropora millepora because it tends to develop thin elongate branches. In Reeffarmers captive reef the coral is positoned at about 12 inches from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. Water current is moderate to weak. Price is currently $70 per small sized fragment. Please note - We raised the price on June 8th to $70 per small fragment. This is mainly because the coral has experienced only a slightly wider captive distribution while demand has experienced a strong increase. The monthly limited edition reservation schedule can be found below. Please note effective January 2010 we have changed the harvesting and reservation schedule to bimonthly. This better matches the corals long term growth rate in captivity.
