OA Blueberry Delight
An Oculus Aquatics Original

Limited Edition OA Blueberry Delight Acropora Encrusted First Seed Image.
A very colorful coral with bright blue rounded and slightly extended corallites.
Branch stems are green which really fits the name blueberry as in a blueberry bush.
This was Reeffarmers first seed of the OA Blueberry Delight Acropora.
We had received this originally called Blueberry Shortcake seed from Wet Thumbs.

The OA Blueberry Delight coral is brilliantly colored Acropora with blue corallites extending from a green branch stem. As can be seen in the image above, the coral can also encrust very well. When maintained under intense light levels, the blue tips can actually appear pinkish in color. Polyps can also develop pigments that range from green tentacles to a blue center. The corals enrusting growth edge is also blue with a mix of green. In some branch areas the blue and green pigments can partially mix to develop a turquoise coloration.

We received our recent fragments of the OA Blueberry Delight Acropora directly from Oculus Aquatics (OA) located in Van Nuys California. The coral was pointed out to us by Brian Kim for possible Limited Edition status, during an early February 2012 tour of their facility. We recognized this exotic coral as the elusive Blueberry Shortcake that Wet Thumbs Inc. had distributed for a brief period. Oculus verified that Wet Thumbs had acquired fragments from them. Reeffarmers had also acquired one of these seed fragments from Wet Thumbs and that fragment is imaged above. It was sold right away however as a first edition and Reeffarmers was not able to get a permanent seed fragment for growout. Thanks to OA, Reeffarmers now has a growout seed of the newly named OA Blueberry Delight Acropora, which is the same as the old Blueberry Shortcake (note to all the purist collectors out there).

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate to strong light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold on our Buy It Now page. Introductory list price was $95 for a small single branch fragment.
