Three of these corals were imported in a large coral shipment from Fiji
during the summer of 2003. Reeffarmers.com was lucky to acquire one
of the three colonies along with Steve Garret of Garret's Acropolis. We
split the colony in half on a tile saw. The coral has a beautiful exotic
bluish purple coloration that appears similar to violet. Its pastel coloration is
also very easy to maintain in captivity. Growth form is encrusting massive.
This species is the same to our Limited Edition Montipora undata 'Idaho
Grape'. The morph of that species however is a plating and scrolling form.
This Montipora undata has an encrusting massive growth form. The
coloration of this Montipora undata is similar but slightly lighter blue then
the 'Idaho Grape'. The growth form of Montipora undata Encrusting Massive
is very similar to that shown in Corals of the World by Veron Volume 1 page
86 Image 3. This coral can also retain its incredible coloration under weak
to moderate lightin levels. Steve Tyree is maintaining this coral for
reeffarmers.com in one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered Tri-Zonal EG Reef
Aquariums. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned at about 19 inches
from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. Water current is moderate.
Price is currently $50 per small sized fragment. Please note - We dropped the price
on June 8th to $50 per small fragment. This is mainly because the coral has experienced
a wider captive distribution. The monthly limited edition
reservation schedules can be found below. In 2005 we have switched this
Limited Edition coral to a bimonthly schedule. Starting in 2005 it will be
harvested every other month. Please note - In March 2008 we retired this Limited Edition
because reservation demand was soft. This particular coral also always seem to do better
when exposed to sunlight instead of artificial bulbs.
