We acquired this exotically colored Montipora species from Eddie Hanson at
Tropical Paradise in San Leandro California. This lime green colored Montipora
develops plating and whorling growth forms. What makes this coral exotic is
the bright blue coloration of its polyps. The baby blue color of the corals
small polyps is easily maintained. These polyps will extend during the daytime
photoperiod. Under certain conditions specific polyps can actually be orange
or red colored. Steve Tyree is maintaining this coral for reeffarmers.com in a
125 gallon naturally filtered TriZonal system. This system is naturally filtered
with a cryptic zone, filter feeder zone and reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's
captive reef the coral is positoned 18 inches below a 400 watt 20,000 K
radium metal halide. The blue polyp coloration has maintained its intensity
in captivity. Water current is moderate to weak. Price is currently
$60 per small sized fragment. The monthly limited edition reservation
schedules can be found below. Please note effective December 2006 we have changed
the harvesting and reservation schedule to bimonthly. This better matches the
corals long term growth rate in captivity. Update June 2007 - Reeffarmers has
retired this coral as a Limited Edition. We still farm the coral and distribute it
as a Farmed Exotic. Fragments are available and we will honor any old reservations
that are still wanted. Retirement price was set at $35 to $45 depending on size.
The coral was mainly retired due to a lack of new reservations at the $60 price.
