The unique qualities of this coral include how bright and darker pigment areas melt or swirl together.

The Melting Emotions Chalice contains a swirling or mixing of brighter and darker pigmentation areas. The main surface pigment color varies from solid orange to solid red. These bright areas can also contain swirls or melting patterns of different shades of red to orange. There are also darker pigment areas that can vary from purple to dark maroon. These dark areas can swirl or melt with the bright areas. As the coral grows and becomes healthy its main surface will tend to appear more orange then red. Darker areas will appear more purple.

Reeffarmers acquired our seed section of the Melting Emotions chalice from Efrain Corals during the 2011 SE-CFM coral show on May 29th in Orlando Florida. The coral section that the seed was harvested from was actually purchased at this coral show by Efrain Corals from Chris at Reef Koi. Chris had brought one seed section of this new chalice to the coral show. ReefKoi recommends low light levels of around 100 PAR LED light for best pigmentation development.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive weak to moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold to private collector James Wensil.
