The Mayan Sun Favia was originally discovered by Dan and Tina of Wet Thumb Frags located in Sylmar California. They found this coral imported by a wholesaler within the Los Angeles area. The original colony is very striking and everyone that sees the coral within their facility asks Dan and Tina about the coral. The coral appears to prefer weak light levels and it fragments easily and grows quite well in captivity.
Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in an 85 gallon naturally filtered BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive weak light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The price of this coral per small fragment consisting of a single corallite is $70. The quarterly limited edition reservation schedules can be found below.
