This Acropora loisettae was originally imported from Bali in 2001/2002.
It was originally housed within the old retail reef shop 'Piece of the Reef'.
Within the Bali area there are also some of the more exotic coral species due
to the fact that Bali is located within the Indo-Malayan center of diversity
for Reef Building Stony Corals. This particular species is only naturally
located within this Indo-Malayan center of diversity. It has not been
reported to exist within the Solomons, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu or Micronesia.
Piece of the Reef distributed a fragment of this coral to Steve Elias for
safe keeping. For awhile, Steve was the only one to have a living section
of the original colony. Within Steve's reef the coral turned a solid
turquoise blue color. Under sub-optimal conditions the coral has brilliant
blue tips. Its corallite structure is very different from staghorns typically
exported from Fiji or Tonga. This coral is currently being farmed by Steve
Tyree and it is located within one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered
Tri-Zonal EG reefs. This is a true staghorn with medium thin branches.
Price is currently $60 per medium sized fragment. Please note - We dropped the price
on June 8th to $60 per small fragment. This is mainly because the coral has experienced
a slightly wider captive distribution. The monthly
limited edition reservation schedule can be found below. Please note effective
January 2008 we have changed the harvesting and reservation schedule to
bimonthly. This better matches the corals long term growth rate in captivity.
