Joe's Rainbow Acropora is an exotic rainbow colored Acropora that was originally exported from Fiji. Almost every color in the rainbow is found within this Acro. The base area has blue edge pigments, fluorescent green patches and also patches of pink pigments. Polyps can be colored pink and/or green. Branch stems are turquoise with areas that contain a medium dark fluorescent green. Branch tips and corallite edges are purple. Some of the corallites have a unique purple colored upper area with a fluorescent green lower area. We do not have an image of the original imported colony, which had turned brown quickly. It is possible that some of these pigments were grafted into the original colony while the coral was maintained within captivity.

Reeffarmers acquired our seed fragment directly from Joey Nichols of Joe Knows Reefs. Joe originally acquired a fragment of this coral from Greg Caudill (caudill187) and that fragment grew into the captive colony imaged above. Greg had actually grew a captive colony (imaged below) from a fragment he had acquired from Reeflvr a member of Reef2Reef. The coral was originally imported by a Baltimore Maryland company that is no longer in business. The colony was exported from Fiji in 2009, but it quickly lost its coral pigments and turned brown. A short time after Reeflvr had acquired his original imported colony it was nearly all lost to RTN. Probably the typical RTN that colonies from Fiji can experience. A small fragment was saved, grown out, and Greg acquired a small frag in a trade with Reeflvr. What is perhaps amazing however, is that we have an exotic colorful Fiji Acropora that is thriving long term in captivity. As of October 17th 2011, Reeflvr, Greg Caudill, Joe Knows Reefs and Reeffarmers were the only ones with seeds of this coral.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. Water current is weak to moderate. The first edition fragment was sold privately with a suggested retail list price of $140 per the small fragment.
