A very colorful new morph similar to our original Retired Limited Edition Echinophyllia aspera coral. That OG LE was one of the first captive grown colorful chalices available to the US reef market. This new Fist Full O' Dollahs Chalice has much brighter pigmentation along with some additional coloration. The base of this coral can develop an underlying bluish pigmentation. Bumps across the surface develop the typical bright fluorecent green coloration of the tops of the bumps or spheres. Corallite centers have orange yellow spots and stripes around the mouths, which is similar to the OG LE Chalice. This new version also has an unusual purple pigments that can also develop within the eye.

Original Echinophyllia aspera Limited Edition now Retired

The Fist Full O' Dollahs Chalice was acquired by Josh Forester (foresteronw@hotmail.com). He purchased the coral in July 2010 from an aquarist who was taking down their reef. The chalice was originally just green and brown when that aquarist initialy acquired the coral. Josh coined the corals name when he was bagging up a fragment of the chalice for a friend. He told him that he was holding a fist full of dollars. And the US dollar may be depreciating so much in the near future, that Josh was probably making a very accurate statement. The coral appears to develop its best pigmentation under moderate light levels. Under strong light the overall colors lighten, while under weak light the coral can turn greenish brown. The coral prefers moderate water current rates.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. Water current is moderate. The first edition fragment was sold to private collector James Wensil.
