Sunburst Favia
Favia sp. Sunburst Favia Seed Section from Reef Tec Designs. This Favia has some very incredible pigmentation
patterns. Corallite ridges contain spots of turquoise green/blue pigments while the center of the corallites
have an overall orange pigmentation. Within these orange corallites there are also some intense pink pigments
that appear concentrated in the outer ring of the corallite.

This Sunburst Favia has a name that accurately describes the sunburst of pigments that occur on the surface of the coral and within its corallite centers. There are numerous spots of pigment located inbetween the corallites. These spots can give the surface an overall color that varies from green to turquoise to bluish. The corallite centers have an overall orange color that can fade in low light conditions. This overall orange center color seems to be composed of spots of pigments that are composed of various colors. We acquired our seed fragment from Ron Johncola of Reef Tec Designs located in Southern California. Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed fragment of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 125 gallon naturally filtered TriZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a cryptic zone, filter feeder zone and reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned 18 inches away from a 400 watt 20,000 K radium metal halide. The incredible pigmentation including the corallite overall orange pigments appears to require at least moderate light intensity. Water current is moderate to weak.
