We acquired this 'Tubs Alien Eye' Echinophyllia echinoporides as a captive
grown fragment from Hugo Zuniga (SNIPERSPS). He acquired his initial fragment
directly from Tubs (John Susbilla) of Exotic Reefs

This coral has a very unusual bright green trim or edge coloration. Corallites
also have a distinctive bright green coloration. When the polyp mouth is open
these corallites can develop a strange "Alien Eye' appearence. It is a relatively
fast growing Echinophyllia species. Steve Tyree is maintaining this coral for
reeffarmers.com in a 125 gallon naturally filtered TriZonal system. This system
is naturally filtered with a cryptic zone, filter feeder zone and reef flat
exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positoned 21 inches below a
400 watt 20,000 K radium metal halide. The coral easily maintains its green trim
and green corallite coloration under moderate to weak lighting. The purple blue
coloration of the main tissue appears to develop more intensely under stronger
lighting levels. Water current is moderate. Please note this coral was retired on
December 2008 due to the loss of the seed.
