Orange and copper-like pigments are some what rare pigments to find within the Acropora corals. The new Copper Acropora millepora develops these pigments in certain areas when maintained in strong light. These pigments are found on branch stems, some branch tips and in the center of the corallites polyps. Corallite ridges form the typical scaley pattern found within the A. millepora. These ridges are bright pink. This A. millepora also extends one elongated polyp tentacle, which is a common trait for millepora. Tentacles are colored bright cream/pink when fully extended and dark red when retracted.

The Copper millepora was originally exported from the Solomon Islands. Reeffarmers acquired our new seed and first edition fragments directly from WT Inc.. Dan and Tina of Wet Thumbs originally purchased the colony in February of 2011. Originally the colony was browned out, but it quickly began to develop its copper branch pigmentation when maintained under strong light levels. They describe the coral as being very hardy and it encrusts well in good water conditions.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive strong light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold on our Buy It Now page. Introductory list price was $160 for the small fragment.
