The 'Chuuk Shaggy Blue Stag' is a medium thick branching staghorn with
very fleshy and shaggy polyp tentacles. Polyps are colored bright blue
when the coral is maintained under strong illumination (400 watt halides).
This Acropora aspera was imported from Ponape and the main collector and
exporter within Ponape, Bill Schroer, personally collected fragments of the
coral from Chuuk. The word 'Chuuk' is the new native name for what used to
be called Truk Lagoon within Micronesia. Bill said the large thicket colony
was an incredible looking shaggy blue staghorn coral that he had never
seen before. He also said that he was never going back to that area of
Chuuk again. Possibly there were too many sharks within that area of the
lagoon or the natives may not have been too friendly. We dont know why
Bill will never go back to the area, but luckily we have a small colony of
the magnificent coral he found there. This coral is being farmed by Steve
Tyree and it is located within one of his 125 gallon naturally filtered
Tri-Zonal EG reefs. ReefFarmers.com is allowed to distribute 1 farmed
fragment of this coral per month. Price is currently $75 per medium sized
fragment. The monthly limited edition reservation schedule can be found
below. In 2005 we have switched this Limited Edition coral to a bimonthly
schedule. Starting in 2005 it will be harvested every other month.
Please note - In March 2008 we retired this coral because we lost the seed
fragment. The coral was also a very slow grower in captivity.
