This Reverse Watermelon coral has bright pink corallite centers. Within these centers there are brighter spots of pink along with some orange pigmentation. The base of the coral contains large bright green bumps or tuberculae. Located between these bumps there is turquoise pigmentation. The amazing Reverse Watermelon corals contain pink to orange corallites and a bright green base pigmentation. One of the first to be distributed nationally was the Mummy Eye coral imaged below on the right. The Miami Hurricane/Pumpkin Patch coral was the next Reverse Watermelon to be distributed to the national market. The latest Reverse Watermelon is called the Bubble Gum Monster coral. Comparison images for the Bubble Gum Monster and Mummy Eye coral are located below. The Bubble Gum Monster had been growing in captivity for a few years when Victor of World Wide Corals acquired it when he purchased the entire coral collection from a Florida based reef collector. Jose Casas (casascj@aol.com) of Southern California acquired a couple of seed fragments from Victor. The Reeffarmers initial seed fragment was acquired from Jose. Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in an 80 gallon naturally filtered BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive weak light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The coral appears to develop its best combination of colors when exposed to weak to moderate light levels. Price is currently $200 per small fragment containing one corallite. The quarterly limited edition reservation schedules can be found below.
