Exclusive Edition RR Merlins Chalice Reef Raft USA Colony Image.
This original colony image was taken overseas within the collectors holding facility.
If you look closely you can see green rings surrounding the orange/pink corallite eyes.
Along with those unique green corallite rings the chalice also develops a green growth edge.
Corallite eyes actually contain a mix of orange and pink pigments that slightly swirl.

The Reef Raft (RR) Merlins Chalice has some very unique pigment qualities. The orange/pink corallite eyes are actually surrounded by a green ring that consists of green lines that radiate outward from the corallite eye. These green rings appear to also have additional diverse pigment qualities that may develop over time in captivity. The corallite eye itself contains a mix of orange and pink pigments that slightly swirl together to give a more orange appearance. The main surface of this chalice can develop a bright bluish coloration that develops more intensely when the coral is healthy and puffed out. The outer leading edge of the chalice also has a bright green rim.

Reeffarmers acquired our first edition and seed fragments of this incredible chalice directly from Reef Raft USA. This colony was selected and collected by their coral broker working overseas. The colony arrived within the US during the week of January 22nd to 28th and was very healthy. Tony of Reef Raft USA [reefraftusa@gmail.com] recommends low light and weak to moderate current for this chalice.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 80 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive weak to moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold as a silent auction for $600.

The rings actually consist of green rays or streaks that radiate outward from the eye.
