Emma's Jedi Mind Trick
Montipora undata

Emma's Jedi Mind Trick Montipora undata Mark Poletti's Seed Colony. True Montipora undata corals with red polyps are very rare.
The bright red orange polyps on the greenish base of the coral give the coral a basic Reverse Sunset pigemntation pattern.
This M. undata however also develops blue pigmented edges that can grow thick in larger colonies. Polyps also tend to occur
in depressions that are surrounded by smooth growth ridges. This gives the surface a slight honey-combed undata appearance.

Montipora corals do not get much rarer then this. A red/orange polyped true Montipora undata with blue growth edges. Smooth ridges occur around corallites and can develop a honey-combed appearance.

Reeffarmers acquired our seed and first edition fragments from Mark Poletti of Sacramento California. The coral originally came from the private collection of Mike Paletta. Only two fragments of this coral had been distributed by Mike Paletta as of April 2008. Mark Poletti acquired one of those fragments in a trade with Mike. Reeffarmers recently received the first two fragments that Mark has ever made from his seed colony. We do not know with certainty where Mike acquired his original fragment and we only have anectodal information. Suffice it to say it is a very rare coral within the States.

Mark Poletti has named his seed coral the Emma's Jedi Mind Trick Montipora undata after his daughter Emma. Mark believes the coral will do fine in low light levels. When Mark tried positioning the coral under moderate light levels, it did not show any adaptation problems from the stronger light levels. Reeffarmers is placing our seed under moderate light levels and we will document any pigmentation changes that develop here on this web page. Mark believes the coral prefers moderate flow rates.

Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of the Emma's Jedi Mind Trick Montipora undata for Reeffarmers.com in an 130 gallon naturally filtered Bi-Zonal Gyre Reef Aquarium. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light under a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium Metal Halide. The coral only needs weak to moderate illumination to maintain its coloration. The price is currently $68 (updated Aug 2012) per small fragment.

Please note Reeffarmers is no longer taking new reservations for new corals. The current economic conditions are not supportive for reservations that extend for a few years into the future. After this first edition is distributed, we will sell future captive produced fragments on either our Buy It Now page or via another silent auction. We will still list exotic corals as Limited Editions and will continue to build web pages for them.

smooth ridges develop the honey-comb appearence that is typical on some undata morphs.

Emma's Jedi Mind Trick Montipora undata Reeffarmers Seed. The polyps on this
coral are very distinctive and striking. Also note the blue pigmentation area on the right.
Reeffarmers believes these blue leading edge pigments might develop over the entire
body of the coral when the coral is adapted to moderate to strong light levels.
